Sustainable development is one possible, long-term behavior pattern for a complex system.
But we deal with people who want certainty, immediacy, and simplicity. So speeches about sustainable development are typically very ineffective.
In his 36 years of experimenting with different methods to convey understanding about growth, overshoot, collapse, and sustainable development, Professor Meadows has gradually adopted a set of simple, exercises that involve the participants in short games to illustrate important principles. These physical activities complement words and pictures in more traditional speeches.
In this very practical workshop Dennis Meadows will teach the session participants how to use many of the short exercises that he has found to be most effective.
Participants will take part in the exercises, and there will be time for
questions and discussion.
The games are taken from 30 exercises described in Meadows' book, "Systems
Thinking
Playbook," which will be available at the session. |
